Behaviour management

Charters Towers Central State School is a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support school (SWPBS).  Our school’s SWPBS motto is 'to create and foster a safe, respectful and accepting learning environment for the school community'.  This motto is the driving culture behind our school.

SWPBS is an evidence-based framework for establishing the social culture needed for schools to be effective learning environments for all students. SWPBS in not a program and therefore does not compete with programs.  It is an organisational framework for identifying, adopting and applying evidence based practices for building and supporting academic and social success for all students.

SWPBS at Charters Towers Central State School ensures that all students have the social and emotional skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.  SWPBS assists schools to teach students expected social behaviours.

This is the most effective response for preventing school-based behaviour problems including school violence and bullying. Teaching and supporting social behavioural skills to students creates student behavioural health and also contributes to academic support systems. SWPBS applies data-based decision-making to discipline, academics and social and emotional learning.

Charters Towers Central State School has three set rules that support SWPBS – I Am Safe, I am Respectful, and I am a Learner.  These three rules are immersed throughout the school curriculum, playground and wider community.
