Year 3

 
Welcome back!!!
 
Year 3 have spent a wonderful three days in week 1 getting to know each other and organising our equipment.
 
In English we are looking at Persuasive writing in preparation for NAPLAN in term 2.  Students will write a persuasive letter as their assessment.
 
In Science we are investigating living and non-living things and are learning to group living things based on observable features.  The assessment this term will be through a collection of work.
 
In History we are learning about significant events that we celebrate and commemorate.  Students through a collection of work will sequence events, locate information and write an invitation to an event for their assessment.
 
In Maths we are learning a number of different concepts in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
·         Number and Algebra
Concepts we will be learning about include; fractions, symmetry, multiplication, division, number patterns, regrouping and decimals.
 
·         Measurement and Geometry
Concepts we will be learning about include; informal units and capacity, describing position, vertical and horizontal lines, litres, 3D objects, time, volume, angles and turns, and kilograms.
 
·         Statistics and Probability
Concepts we will be learning about include; graphs, collecting data, chance and possible outcomes, problem solving, and patterning.
 
In Art we are learning to mix and complement colours with an emphasis on emotion or feeling.  Students will create an artwork based on a feeling, then write an artist’s statement describing the elements of their artwork.
