Before School Reading Program

5/03/2014

Charters Towers Central State School is committed to improving all student's reading abilities this year. This is our Number 1 improvement agenda for our school.

This term we have begun a Before School Reading Program. We have commenced with Year 3 students and hope to include other lower grades in the future. Some year 6/7 students have volunteered to come and help. For parents of these year 6/7 students, please note that it is voluntary and if your child is unable to make it to school regularly at 8.30 on their rostered day – that is perfectly fine – we just ask the students let us know that they will be unable to volunteer.

Year 3 students have been reminded that they are to go to the Library after 8.20 in the morning to do their reading before they go out to play. Evidence suggests that the more reading students do, the better readers they become, so it is hoped that our students benefit from this program. The Before School Reading Program runs from Monday to Thursday. It starts at 8.30 and goes until the bell rings for school to start.
